ORLANDO ââ?¬â?? The SYF Players, a Nike national travel team based out of Northwest Indiana, won the AAU Super Showcase here July 27, beating the rival Illinois Warriors by 10 points to give them their first national tournament championship. SYF was powered by the efforts of Tyrone Appleton and E’Twaun Moore, who both finished with 24 points, while the Valparaiso duo of Robbie Hummel and Scott Martin combined for another 18.
The Players, fresh off their Super Showcase championship, then breezed to a pool-play victory over the Middlesex Magic just three hours later to start the AAU Nationals off in good fashion. The Players were led by Indianapolis Pike’s super sophomore, Cordell Passley, who poured in 20 points, while Martin, Gary Wallace’s George Bess, and Moore combined for 26 more.
