Its Week 3 in the 2006
volleyball season, and the action is heating up! With a number of key matchups
taking place this week, 4A No. 2 New Albany and 2A No. 2 Brownstown get
things going on Tuesday.

Other key matches include:

4A No. 1 Indianapolis Cathedral vs. 3A No. 3 Roncalli
(Tuesday)
3A No. 4 Yorktown vs. 2A No. 4 Wapahani (Tuesday)
4A No. 4 Muncie Central vs. A No.
5 Cowan (Tuesday)
3A No. 3 Roncalli vs. 4A No. 6 Warren Central (Wednesday)
3A No. 1 Bellmont vs. 4A No. 10 Fort Wayne Snider (Thursday)
2A No. 3 Heritage Christian vs. 2A
No. 6 Park Tudor (Thursday)

Class 4A
1. Indianapolis
Cathedral
2. New Albany
3. Center Grove
4. Muncie Central
5. Penn
Last week, No. 1 Cathedral took on and
defeated 2As top-ranked team (Muncie Burris). The Irish also went 4 for 4 at
the Mishawaka Invitational over the weekend to claim the trophy. This week, Cathedral
will battle former No. 1 and current No. 3 Roncalli from Class 3A on Tuesday. Cathedral
will also take part in the Providence Tourney on Saturday. New Albany jumps
up two spots to grab ahold of the No. 2 spot after sweeping all four games at
the River City Invitational on Aug. 26. The undefeated Bulldogs’ lone match this
week will be a big one as they host Class 2A No. 2 Brownstown on Thursday. Center
Grove
will host a pair of home games this week against Carmel
(Tuesday) and Franklin (Thursday) before taking the weekend off. Muncie
Central
drops down one spot after suffering losses to Cathedral and 3A
No. 5 South Bend St.
Josephs. The Bearcats will entertain Class A No.
5 Cowan on Tuesday and Assumption (KY) on
Thursday. Penn sticks at No. 5 after picking up three wins over the
weekend. The Kingsmen will travel to Goshen on
Tuesday for a match, then host Mishawaka Marian on Thursday (Marian was
ranked 5th in last weeks 3A poll).

Class 3A

1. Bellmont
2. Delta
3. Roncalli
4. Yorktown
5. South
Bend St. Josephs

Bellmont
surges to the top spot in 3A
after a sizzling week. The Braves captured both midweek games and went 3-1 in
the Yorktown Invite, falling only to the host Tigers. Bellmont defeated both Delta and
Brebeuf to reign supreme among 3A giants. The Braves will have the
weekend off but will take on Heritage on Tuesday before traveling to Class 4A
No. 10 Fort Wayne Snider on Thursday. Delta held its own at Yorktown despite falling to Bellmont and
earned three victories, including one against Brebeuf. The Eagles will head to Hancock County for a pair of away matches
against Greenfield on Tuesday and Mt. Vernon (Fortville) Thursday. Delta will once again be involved in a big tournament as it will
participate in the Burris nvitational, which will of course involve 2A
No. 1 Muncie Burris along with Fort Wayne Snider and Class 2A No. 4 Wapahani.
The Rebels of Roncalli have a tough
week ahead with a matchup against 4A No. 1 Cathedral and No. 6 Warren Central.
Roncalli will also play in the Providence Tourney on Saturday. Yorktown jumps into the top five after a
solid week that saw the Tigers go 4-0 in their own invite, which included a win
over current No. 1 Bellmont. Yorktown will help keep Wapahani busy with a Tuesday tilt and then
come right back on Wednesday to take on Pendleton Heights. South Bend St. Josephscomes
in at No. 5 in this weeks poll after a big win over Muncie Central on
Aug. 26. The Indians will play Tippecanoe Valley and Mishawaka in
Tuesday and Thursday matches. St. Joes will be in action over the
weekend in the Kankakee Classic.

Class 2A
1. Muncie Burris
2. Brownstown
3. Heritage Christian
4. Wapahani
5. Eastbrook

Muncie
Burris is
still No. 1. The Owls took the first game against Cathedral before falling in
the next three games. Burris regained its muscle on Aug. 26 with a win over 4A
No. 5 Penn. The Owls will host a tournament this weekend that includes 3A
No. 2 Delta, 2A No. 4 Wapahani, and 4A No. 10 Fort Wayne Snider. Brownstown will tangle with 4A
No. 2 New Albany on Thursday in the biggest volleyball match of the week. Heritage Christian had a very
successful week by winning its three midweek games against Decatur Central, Indianapolis
Scecina, and Indianapolis Manual. The Eagles didnt stop there and kept on winning Aug.
26. with three wins in the Lawrence North Tournament. Heritage Christian will
travel to Covenant Christian for a Tuesday match, then host 2A No. 6 Park
Tudor on Thursday. Wapahani will find out exactly what it’s made of this week as the Raiders will play
3A No. 4 Yorktown on Tuesday and participate in the loaded Muncie Burris tournament on Saturday. Eastbrook
is a new entry into the top five this week.

Class A

1. Michigan
City Marquette
2. Morristown
3. Northeast Dubois
4. Loogootee
5. Cowan

Michigan City Marquette
suffered its first loss (vs. 4A
No. 8 Elkhart Memorial) of the season but remains on top of Class A. The Wolves
will take on Crown Point and Valparaiso this week. The Morristown Yellow Jackets jump up a spot to No. 2 and will
have another light week with just one match, albeit a big one against county
rival Shelbyville on Thursday. Morristown easily won both of its matches
last week against Edinburgh and Southwestern (Shelbyville). Northeast Dubois comes in at No. 3 and
will battle Perry Central and North Daviess in Tuesday/Thursday matches before playing in a
tournament at Barr-Reeve on Saturday. The Jeeps downed Barr-Reeve on Aug. 25 in
three straight games. Loogootee moves up a spot to No. 4 and will have a pair
of matches, against Southridge and Washington Catholic on Tuesday and Thursday. Cowan drops down a few clicks after
last week and will have a huge task in front of it as the Blackhawks have to
travel to Muncie Central for a match with the 4A No. 4 Bearcats. Cowan will
also play Monroe Central on Thursday.
