GREENSBURG ââ?¬â?? It may be impossible to lose a football game and actually be happy,
but Batesville coach Eric Heppner had to experience something close to that Sept.
29 following his Class 3A No. 14 Bulldogs 14-7 loss at Greensburg.
After all,
at halftime he was surely worried about just being able to stay on the field
with the Pirates.
Greensburg dominated the first half of play
in just about every way possible. The Pirates shut down Batesvilles vaunted
ball-control offense. The Greensburg
offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage in establishing its own rushing
attack. And the Pirates were able to complete passes at critical times.
In short,
the Pirates looked like their No. 10 ranking in 3A might not be nearly high
enough.
They took
a 14-0 lead into the intermission, and only a lack of time had kept it from
being more.
