With the 98th Annual Indiana High School Boys Basketball State Tournament under way, HoosierAuthority.com brings you an interview with one of the tournament’s most avid fans, Harley Sheets. The 72-year-old Danville resident is the co-founder and vice president of the Indiana High School Basketball Historical Society (IHSBHS). The organization, which was founded in 1995, does research on the nearly 100 years of history of Indiana high school basketball. In addition, they publish six newsletters a year titled “The Boxscore,” of which Sheets is the editor.

Sheets, who has literally hundreds of stories to tell about Indiana high school hoops, shares a few of his stories with Chris May in a HoosierAuthority.com exclusive interview! The video player at the end of this article contains the interview in which Sheets talks about a variety of subjects, including the formation of the IHSBHS, researching records, Hoosier hoopsters who later became movie stars, the four books he has written, his high school postcard collection, Milan’s 1954 state championship team, and his memories of competing against the Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos while a starter for Lebanon during the 1953 and 1954 seasons.

Note: The viewpoints expressed by Sheets do not necessarily represent those of HoosierAuthority.com or Digital Sports employees.

If you would like information on how you can become a member of the Indiana High School Basketball Historical Society, you can do so by sending an e-mail to harleysheets@yahoo.com. Membership is $6 a year and includes six issues of “The Boxscore” newsletter.
