The Indiana High School Swimming Coaches Association has named the Indiana High School Swimmer of the Year for 2007-08 Girls Swimming and Diving. This award, which honors the finest swimmers and divers in the state of Indiana based on performances at the IHSAA state finals, is calculated using the Power Point tables published by the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association.
The Indiana Swimmer of the Year is senior Michelle McKeehan of Center Grove High School, the state champion in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. Her winning time of 1:56.87 in the 200 IM established a new National High School Federation record, while her time of 1:00.12 in the 100 ****** established a new state record.
Because her 100 ****** earned more points from the NISCA Power Point table, McKeehan earned the Indiana Swimming and Diving Performance of the Year for her efforts in that event. McKeehan was honored with both awards all four years of her high school career, and her combined total of 357 power points also set a new record.
She was coached by Jim Todd.
Carmel coach Chris Plumb was named the Indiana High School Girls Swimming & Diving State Coach of the Year. The Carmel girls won for the 22nd time in a row, tying a national record for number of consecutive state titles in any girls high school sport.
