The Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association has released its fourth set of polls for the 2009 softball season, and we have a new No. 1 in Class 4A as Avon has bumped up to the top spot after last week’s 3-1 defeat of previous leader Center Grove.
The other top teams from last week – 3A New Palestine, 2A Indianapolis Scecina, and 1A Tecumseh – stay the same. Elsewhere, we have minimal movement as the weather hopefully turns non-cruddy on a semi-permanent basis:
In 4A, Homestead moves from ninth to fifth, LaPorte goes from 11th to ninth, and Greenfield-Central ascends from 14th to 10th.
In 3A, Boonville rises from fourth to second, Edgewood rises from fifth to third, and Gibson Southern – or Gibson “Southren” as it consistently appears on the ICGSA website … did somebody lose a bet? – rizes frum 15th to ninth. (Seriously, it’s not like the Titans from Fort Branch are two-time state champs or anything.)
In 2A, South Adams moves from 12th to ninth.
In 1A, Riverton Parke goes from fifth to third, while fellow Wabash River Conference foe Rockville bumps up from 11th to seventh.
Teams are listed by rank followed by school, first-place votes if applicable, rating points, and record (Top 10 schools only). The ICGSA’s 95 ranked schools from April 27:
